A restoration project will transform Boston’s historic Warren Hall building in Brighton into three commercial bays and 35 affordable residential units.
The venue, built in 1879, briefly housed a rock club where The Doors performed. Across its history, the building has seen political rallies, weddings and more, according to a press release.
The structure fell into disrepair under private ownership. At the suggestion of tenants, development partners including Allston Brighton CDC, Schochet Companies, the City of Boston, MassHousing and others purchased the property in 2024.
Developers committed to extending affordability for residents and updating infrastructure while maintaining historic appeal. The rehabilitation will cost $10 million and encompass selective demolition, full interior rehabilitation and exterior site upgrades.
“Warren Hall is such an important project because it not only ensures that these 33 units of housing remain affordable, but it also shows the intersection of historical preservation and housing development,” said ABCDC Executive Director John Woods. “We are excited about the partnership with Schochet, and we look forward to collaborating with our neighbors in the community to continue the great legacy of this building.”
