Renting a Boston apartment continues to cost more. The market saw 3% year-over-year price growth in early August, and the current median monthly rent sits at $3,400, according to new data from Zumper.com.
Boston ranks among the priciest rental markets nationwide with a median monthly rent 1.75 times higher than the national median of $1,940. A studio apartment in Boston still costs more than the national median, fetching $2,400 monthly.
Constricted supply continues to feed high prices. As of August 1, around 7,837 rental units were listed across the city.
Nearby markets
Rental prices increased in nearby markets including Brockton (+2%), Brookline (+5%), Cambridge (+2%), Everett (+5%), Lynn (+6%), Malden (+4%), and Somerville (+6%). Waltham alone saw no change.
Medford (+9%), Newton (+9%), Quincy (+8%) and Revere (+8%) felt the steepest growth.
