Buyers who qualify could receive $25,000 at 0% interest with deferred repayment terms for a down payment, closing costs, prepaid mortgage insurance or a reduced interest rate.

First-time homebuyers in Massachusetts may be eligible for $25,000 in interest-free down payment and homebuyer assistance thanks to a new program from MassHousing and the office of Governor Maura Healey.

Buyers who qualify could receive $25,000 at 0% interest with deferred repayment terms for a down payment, closing costs, prepaid mortgage insurance or a reduced interest rate. They must finalize their MassHousing mortgage between April 27 and July 31 and earn up to 135% of the area median income. Depending on where buyers reside within the Commonwealth, household income could range from $129,870 in Hampden County, $137,565 in the Berkshires and $165,645 in Worcester County to $205,335 in eastern Massachusetts.

“We are focused every day on lowering the cost of housing for people,” Healey said in a press release. “This program lowers families’ upfront costs and their monthly payments so that more people can afford to buy a home and build their future right here in Massachusetts. Today, we’re bringing this assistance to a wider cross-section of the middle class who are being priced out of homeownership right now. We encourage any eligible first-time homebuyers to apply for this expanded assistance, and we’re going to keep using every tool at our disposal to lower costs for everyone.”
