Kevin Gillis began working in the lending industry during college while attending the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has since become an industry veteran who quickly adapts to changing market conditions.
Currently a senior vice president of mortgage lending at Rate, Gillis always prioritizes his clients, treating them like family members or close friends. He is especially excited for 2026 and what recent market changes mean for affordability. “Conditions are shifting in the buyer’s favor,” he explains. “Rates are coming down, and more houses are coming [up] for sale.”
Specializing in first-time homebuyers and complex jumbo loans, Gillis focuses on preparing his first-time buyers for homeownership. He gets to know his clients on a personal level, working with them to develop budgets and monthly payments that they are comfortable with and that align with their long-term investment goals. He fully underwrites his preapproval clients upfront, so once they find a property they love, clients can confidently make offers without stress.
Gillis explores every possible avenue to ensure he achieves the best deal for clients. He leaned into Rate’s suite of portfolio products this year, which are designed to fit almost every residential scenario imaginable and can accommodate quick closings. “I just closed a jumbo loan for a retired client in his 50s using only his stock and retirement accounts that are held in a trust as income,” he shares. “These products have been a game-changer for borrowers who need more flexibility. We frequently use them to rescue loans that were denied by other lenders.”
When he isn’t closing loans, Gillis enjoys golfing, skiing, cooking and spending time with his wife and four kids.
