A new study from WalletHub named Cambridge one of the best college towns in America.
Using data from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau and theNational Center for Education Statistics, the finance company ranked college towns and cities based on metrics like wallet-friendiness, social environment and academic and economic opportunities.
Cambridge ranked No. 37 among all towns and cities and No. 10 among small cities. The city’s prestigious schools helped boost its ranking, placing it in the top five nationwide for academic and economic opportunity.
Cambridge fell behind in the budget-friendliness category, placing 407 out of 415 towns and cities. The city offers a positive social scene, however, landing at No. 41 out of 415.
“Cambridge stands out among the nation’s best college towns for offering strong academic opportunities paired with vibrant urban life,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “Cambridge earns its spot for exceptional academic quality, ranking third nationally in higher education excellence. Home to world-class institutions like Harvard and MIT, it offers unparalleled educational and research opportunities. Despite a higher cost of living, its combination of intellectual resources and innovation makes it one of the most desirable college towns in the U.S.”
