A blizzard-ridden January brought more than just snow to Boston. Bean Town’s housing market saw a 1.4% drop in sales as the typical value of a home rose 1.7% year-over-year to $712,622, according to a report from Zillow.
Meanwhile, inventory grew by 8% during the same time frame.
“The early read on sales for the Boston metro shows a 1.4% drop from last year, which we think may in part be a symptom of the tough winter weather the northeast has been facing, but we expect sales volume to bounce back as we approach spring,” Zillow Chief Economist Mischa Fisher told Boston Agent magazine.
He continued, “Remember that these tight markets are an opportunity for ambitious agents to position themselves to clients as a resource to help buyers land their dream home or sellers maximize their asking price. Even with limited inventory, Boston area agents should be reassured seeing active listings increasing and more new listings poised to join the market as the weather gets warmer.”
