Gregory DeBiase Real Estate Agent

Maria Fabiano Realty, Medford Massachusetts

Gregory DeBiase | Real Estate Agent at Maria Fabiano Realty

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
At 14, I started working at Shaw’s supermarket. In the summers I worked as a laborer and built above ground pools. I ended up working in the service industry for many years while I was in school. Along with being a realtor I am also a firefighter.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
I wanted to be a fire fighter, and that dream came true. As a child there was a fire at my neighbor’s house, and it extended to our siding. I remember the fireman coming in and carrying me outside. That always stuck with me and left me with the urge to help those in need.

I also always wanted to be involved with real estate. My mother has been in real estate for over 25 years and is currently my broker at our boutique office.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Anthony bourdain. I have always been a huge fan, especially because he’s a New England native. Travel, food and connecting with others are important to me, so I would have loved to meet him.

What is Boston’s best-kept secret?
I would say the Warren Tavern in Charlestown. It’s a unique old school bar that the Founding Fathers used to drink at. Not something you see everyday!

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
I would say managing expectations. I work with a lot of first time home buyers, and nerves definitely come into play. I like to have the hard conversation up front and be fully transparent with my clients about what they will likely be able to achieve in the current market.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
I would say get on social media first and foremost, but also just start talking. If you’re at a bar, mention you’re an agent. You would be surprised how far building rapport can get you.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
I once had a private showing with a client, and while we were in the basement, I started to hear footsteps above. We came upstairs to find about 20 people in the house who thought it was an open house. It was awkward trying to kick everyone out. Although, I must admit, I did try to get some new clients out of it.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Don’t wait for it to come, go and get it.
