Agent Snapshot: Richard Giglio, Real Estate Consultant, Keller Williams Realty Boston-Metro, Boston

screen-shot-2016-11-03-at-2-48-14-pmWhat was your first job in the realty industry? I was a real estate agent.

Where did you grow up? Quincy. I went to Saint John the Baptist School with the Sisters of Saint Joseph, who drummed multiplication tables and perfect grammar into me. I’m very grateful for that!

Growing up, what did you want to be? A musician. I wanted to travel around the country playing organ concerts. I got that job with Yamaha when I was 30; I did it for ten years. Visited every state except Arkansas. It was truly a dream come true. Later, I was the organist at Fenway Park for eight years!

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Needlepoint, listen to opera, walk, visit museums and art galleries, or sit in our garden.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Hillary Clinton, because she’s going to be president.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Anyplace I can walk outside during any time of the year. I love walking in a blizzard as much as I love walking on a warm summer day! I like strolling the public garden and sitting on a bench by myself.

What do you love most about the industry? The people. I love meeting new people and in real estate, there’s always a steady stream of them. Love working with them to help them realize their dreams and goals.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I listen! I have very strong interpersonal and communication skills. (But very poor technical skills!) I let my clients know I am right there with them, from the beginning to the closing and beyond. I tell them to call me for whatever they need and I will take care of it.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Anything technical. I’m struggling with the twenty-first century!

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Anyplace there are people. I met one client standing at a corner waiting for the light to change. I met a couple at a luncheon following a funeral. They bought a $3M condo from me.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? The Boston AIDS Walk, FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE. For its first five years, 1986-1990, I was the walk coordinator. Working with Liz Page (Walk Director) and thousands of volunteers, we raised $6.5M for AIDS care and services. It’s the single accomplishment in my life of which I am the most proud.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The movie “Sully,” and the book “Reclaiming Conversation”

What is your favorite restaurant? Del Frisco’s. Everything about it is fabulous!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Boston? BPL

What kind of car do you drive? A Mercedes

Smartphone or paper? Samsung Gallaxy. But still love pen and paper!

What is your favorite city after Boston? Paris

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Keep talking to people and keep believing in yourself!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? My gmail. How did I ever survive without it?

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? I don’t know the difference between Twitter and Tweater.
