Agent Snapshot: Patricia Baker, Realtor, Keller Williams Realty International, Newton

Patricia-Baker

Patricia Baker is a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty International working in Newton.

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job was an associate agent.

Where did you grow up? West Hartford, Conn.

Growing up, what did you want to be? Teacher.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Work out at the gym.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Definitely Oprah, because I was in the media prior to real estate. She broke all of the barriers in rising to the top of a very difficult business. The media business is much more difficult than real estate.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Home.

What do you love most about the industry? Having happy clients who hug and kiss me at the closing and thank me profusely. Hence, they send me more wonderful clients to service.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? My background is in media sales and marketing. I customize every marketing plan for every home. My clients appreciate that. Keller Williams is also very forward thinking in terms of supplying fantastic technology and ideas to agents.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Post inspection negotiations can be tough, but I can usually navigate the waters successfully.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I network with my friends/clients from my past business. I have a huge referral base from my happy clients, and I use social media, as well.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Being a mother to a great son who is now part of my real estate team.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? I loved the movie Whiplash. My last good read was “Deep Down Dark” about the trapped Chilean miners by Hector Tobar. I read mostly non-fiction. “The Divide” by Matt Taibbi was also excellent.

What is your favorite restaurant? In Boston, I still love Sorrelina and Mistral after all of these years. Locally, we like the Waban Kitchen.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Boston? The Stata Center by Frank Gehry at MIT is fantastic looking. The Harry Parker Boathouse (Community Rowing) in Brighton with the glass box is beautiful. And anything designed by H.H. Richardson is great in my book.

What kind of car do you drive? BMW 525 xi.

Smartphone or paper? iPhone, of course.

What is your favorite city after Boston? Paris.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Go to a firm (Keller Williams) that has great training.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? My personal Patricia Baker/KW app. Clients can view homes on the run.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Gary Keller (@GaryKeller).
