What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Surf, play hockey, play guitar and EAT!
If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Jimmy Page. He is a master of his craft who came from a humble beginning and reinvented what it means to be a guitarist. A leader by example, but still untouchable in skill after almost 6 decades of playing.
Where is your favorite place to hang out? In Boston – the North End. Once again, I love to EAT! Outside of Boston – Maine is fantastic for a getaway to the beach or mountains. And, of course, if you’ve got Bruins tickets, always willing to join and hang out at the Garden!
What do you love most about the industry? The Boston real estate community is filled with smart, motivated, extremely competent agents who I interact with on a daily basis. It makes it a pleasure to work here. Because I work in the loft marketplace, my clients are always a wonderful mix of creative personalities and “outside the box” type people.
How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? Marketing within the niche marketplace of loft-style homes keep me a little bit apart from the standard condo-crowd, but first and foremost is attention to detail for my clients. From the first meeting, my service is white glove for everyone I work with, and they notice.
What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Having newcomers to Boston adjust to the market price of the homes here. I want all of my clients to feel that Boston is a welcoming city, and we love the diversity and influx of new residents. It can be a tough transition if they are not coming from another major metropolitan area in terms of pricing.
Where do you go to network and meet new clients? i’m very well rounded in terms of outside activities. I’m a hockey coach, I am socially present in Boston, I’ve hosted first-time buyer seminars, and I have a community of surfers, hockey players and other avenues of activity that I’m always interacting with. But I’ll say hello to anyone. Walking into a new boutique shop or meeting a contractor on a job site – I’m extremely curious and quick to know all there is!
What has been your greatest accomplishment? Working for the same firm in the same marketplace for over a decade now and building the Boston Lofts brand to be THE online site and firm for loft-style homes. The brokerage, Boston Realty Advisors, is a boutique firm, but we have experts in every facet of the industry. It’s great to be alongside the best in the industry from retail leasing to capital market sales all under one roof.
What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? I’m into biographies. Bobby Orr’s My Story is fantastic. Yes, I’m a huge hockey fan and he’s a local hero, but even outside of hockey, the man gives back so much to the people of Massachusetts to this day. (Oh, my copy is signed, too!)
What is your favorite restaurant? I have about 5 in the North End that are on the same level. And another handful in the South End. My newest favorite is Bastille Kitchen in the Seaport. Recently had a private party and the food, service and room itself were all impeccable. Not surprisingly to fit my taste, it’s brick and beam style inside.
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Boston? Court Square Press. It’s a former printing press in South Boston. The exterior is the handsome original brick, but the front facade is a curved glass altruism that is bold and inviting. Inside there’s a Zen garden, huge gallery-like foyer,and the units are the perfect blend of modern & unique brick-n-beam style. Historic and comfortable, with a touch of luxury.
What kind of car do you drive? Infiniti g37x. Great to zip around the city, all-wheel drive easy to get into tight parking spots and the surfboard fits easily on the roof rack if I can get to the water for a session! (You think this will this help get a reduction on my lease next time?)
Smartphone or paper? Both. I love the convenience of everything in the palm of my hand, but I write it all down in the date book my wife buys me every year. It’s also filled with doodles, of course.
What is your favorite city after Atlanta? I’ve only been there once, but Vancouver blew me away when I was there. It is a crisp, fresh, waterfront city surrounded by incredible views and nature. I’m looking forward to going back. Rome is my favorite European city. I’m a walker, and every step there is a treat for all your senses!
In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Know your target marketplace inside & out before anything else.
What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? I’m a visual person, so apps like Interior Design Ideas and Houzz for home improvement and decorating are fantastic.
Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? for Real Estate: @CurbedBoston has a great balance of humor, market insight and knowledge. @BarbaraCorcoran. She’s another one of the “masters” from humble beginnings and always has a fresh take on success and the industry.
