Boston’s output of new apartments remained stable this year in contrast with booming regions for apartment construction like the South, according to a new report from RentCafe.
By the end of 2025, Boston will have added a projected 8,508 new apartments. That’s just 49 fewer than last year. Boston ranks 16th among the 20 most populous U.S metros for new apartment construction.
Locally, Everett leads in the metro area for new apartments added at 1,555. Boston proper (1,243 units) and Revere (614 units) follow.
New England and the Midwest lag behind the South for growth in apartment construction. Nationwide, 500,000 apartments will be completed this year. Nearly 52% will be in the South.
The Northeast will add a total of 56,521 before the end of the year, mostly in New York (20,657 units) and New Jersey (13,195 units).
