MLS PIN settles, pledges to remove all compensation fields

by Elizabeth Kanzeg Rowland

After a five year legal battle, Massachusetts-based MLS Property Information Network has agreed to remove displays of compensation on their listing service Pinergy once their settlement becomes final.

In an email titled “An Important Update on the Nosalek Case and What’s Ahead,” the company told shareholders, “[W]e reached a point where a difficult decision had to be made to put the long-running litigation behind us.” Later in the email, they confirmed that, “After our settlement is final, all fields relating to compensation will be removed from the Pinergy system.”

As an alternative, the company plans to implement an “attestation checkbox” that will appear before sellers post a listing.

MLS PIN stood out from other brokerages by continuing to display compensation on their MLS service when most chose to comply with standards set by NAR’s recent MLS listing settlement.
