Massachusetts is the best state to live in in the U.S., according to WalletHub’s 2023 Best States to Live In list.
WalletHub compared all 50 states across five metrics covering affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life and safety. States were also compared across 51 livability indicators, including affordability, housing costs, income growth, job opportunities, education rates and the quality of hospitals.
Massachusetts topped the list, coming in No. 1 overall, as well as being No. 1 for education. It ranked sixth in both quality of life and safety, 11th for economy and 44th for affordability.
The Bay State was also one of the best states for income growth, ranking 13th. Plus, it ranked No. 1 for having the highest percentage of insured populations and fifth for having the lowest average weekly work hours. Massachusetts also ranked 10th for the number of restaurants per capita.
New Jersey took second place, followed by New Hampshire in the No 3 spot. New York and Wyoming rounded out the top five.
