Agent Snapshot: Ellen Corbett, Realtor, Hillman Homes

Name: Ellen Corbett

Title: Realtor

Company: Hillman Homes

What was your first job in the realty industry? I worked in Newton at Castle’s Unlimited, then moved over to Somerville. I have stayed in the Metro Boston Area for my whole career.

Where did you grow up? I moved to Needham when I was six and lived there until I went to college in the Boston area.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be a teacher.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I love to kayak, bake and sew.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? My biological parents. I am adopted and have been searching for a couple of years. I have a wonderful family and would not have wanted to change that for the world. But it would be very interesting to just meet them to see how their lives were.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Agassiz Village. A summer camp on Lake Thompson in Maine.

What do you love most about the industry? I love being able to help people find their dream home. I enjoy meeting new people and help problem solve/find a solution to their problem. Looking for a home is similar. You have to be able to read between the lines and really listen to your clients, to be able to help them achieve their goal of finding the perfect home for them now.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I like to think that I listen to what my clients really want and really want the best for them. Even if it means waiting for the next home. They are happier in the long run when they feel that I truly represent them.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Trying to please everyone and managing other’s emotions to get the job done.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I get most of my clients through referrals, but I enjoy meeting new people at classes (business and enriching) and chamber events.
