Admired for their patience and for listening more than they talk, Rick Scherer and Rich Clayton, known in the Boston real estate community as Rick and Rich, have been partners in the mortgage industry for over a decade. In 2019, the pair decided to combine their skills, experience and vision and created their own company, OnTo Mortgage.

The firm is capable of handling a wide range of mortgage lending, from jumbo loans to what Scherer calls “save-a-deals,” which entails restructuring loans that other lenders are unable to do and closing them quickly.

Clayton leads a team of originators, sales assistants and processors and says the service clients receive from his team is second to none. “Our first-and-foremost core value is ‘client first,’” he says.  “Many businesses fail to comprehend the significance of customer service. At OnTo it is our number one core value.” 

Both Scherer and Clayton have been recognized as top 1% originators in the country by Scotsman’s Guide for over a decade. In addition to the pair’s individual accomplishments, OnTo Mortgage is Great Place To Work certified and was recognized as Best of 2020 and Best of 2021 by Bankers & Tradesman.

With the creation of OnTo Mortgage, Rick and Rich plan to increase the number of people they help each year. “This goes beyond assisting our clients in reaching their goals of homeownership and putting them in a better financial position,” Clayton says. “Part of our mission is to give back to the communities that we serve.” 

In 2022, OnTo Mortgage joined forces with industry powerhouse LeaderOne Financial.  This dynamic partnership allows OnTo Mortgage to continue to successfully navigate the market, with opportunity to grow in 40 additional states!
