Thomas McLaughlin, Senior Loan Officer

Guaranteed Rate Affinity

Fifteen years ago, Thomas McLaughlin was looking for a career change. With contacts in the mortgage and real estate industries and a natural ability to juggle multiple projects and manage teams, he left his job as a project manager in the telecom industry for a career in lending.

As a senior loan officer with Guaranteed Rate Affinity, McLaughlin has experienced the ups and downs in the mortgage lending industry over the years, but he’s always managed to find the best outcome for his clients. Even the unique challenges throughout the pandemic didn’t prevent him from helping his team achieve its goals. Last year he doubled his business and made his company’s President’s Club by mid-summer. “My team was able to stay focused on our clients and help as many families as we could when the odds were against us,” he relates. He is also a member of Business Network International (BNI).

Ranked among the top 1% of mortgage originators in the country by Mortgage Executive Magazine, McLaughlin knows that real estate is not a Monday-through-Friday, 9-to-5 business and makes himself available to borrowers when they need him the most. “I never see it as a burden to communicate in the evening, on weekends or holidays, when buyers are free from their work responsibilities and able to focus on their real estate needs,” he says.

McLaughlin’s years of experience have prepared him to understand that situations are always subject to change. Whether it’s lender guidelines or a borrower’s or seller’s profile, he can identify the problem and determine how best to get to the finish line. Clients rely on this ability to make transactions proceed smoothly.

When not talking to a client, McLaughlin fulfills his various other roles, namely those of husband, dad, girls’ 10U hockey coach, golfer, amateur landscaper and handyman. He also volunteers on a number of different boards and committees in his community.
