In the homebuying process, the unsung hero — particularly in 2020 — is the mortgage lending expert who can educate clients on options and truly elevate their purchase experience. After 18 years in the business, Craig Barber says he is more convinced than ever that he’s exactly where he’s meant to be.
“Buying a home should be fun and exciting,” says Barber. “We believe we bring the same excitement to our borrowers as they go through our homebuying experience.” Describing his style as a cocktail of educational and laid-back, Barber recalls that he started in the industry with his first job after graduating college. Under the tutelage of two mentors — now people he describes as his best friends — he learned to build a true career, perhaps even a calling, by helping and serving his clients in the Boston area.
“White glove service,” Barber says of his typical feedback from clients. “I’m always available to answer questions and concerns. No surprises.”
In 2020, Barber’s biggest challenge was meeting unprecedented demand. “With all-time low interest rates, the industry continues to have more opportunities to help borrowers than time in the day,” he says. This boom has allowed him to hire seven new people to join his team and begin the full-circle process of training them, just the way his true friends and mentors helped him grow back in 2003.
Recognized as a top originator by Mortgage Executive Magazine and the Scotsman Guide, Barber explains that his trick is to do the heavy lifting for his buyers upfront. “Our team’s vision is to provide the most referable loan experience in the Greater Boston Area,” he says. With an upbeat attitude and record volume, this husband and father of two doesn’t plan to slow down anytime soon.
