S. John Murray
Senior Vice President
Draper and Kramer Mortgage Corp.
S. John Murray’s accomplished mortgage career has an unlikely starting point: the frozen foods business. After earning his degree in economics in 1985 from the University of Michigan, Murray’s first job was selling home-delivered frozen meals. Though he found quick success and was promoted to district manager within six months, he was eager for the chance to make a bigger difference in people’s lives.
It wasn’t long before Murray found his calling. “I was offered a job as a mortgage originator, and I jumped at the opportunity,” he says. “I was thrilled to use my background in economics to advise others and help them obtain affordable home financing that fit their situations.”
Over the 33 years since starting his career, Murray has originated more than 10,000 loans and $2 billion in total home financing. He is consistently ranked among the top-producing loan originators in the nation and has been recognized in numerous industry publications. In 2018, he and his Danvers-based team joined Draper and Kramer Mortgage Corp.
To this day, Murray continues to put the needs of his customers first. “I’m available 24/7 to answer questions, navigate roadblocks and help ensure the smoothest possible closing,” he says. With his expertise in the overall market and Federal Reserve rate cycles, Murray advocates no-point, lender-paid closing-cost mortgages for many borrowers.
When not helping his clients, Murray loves spending time with his wife and three children. The family enjoys hanging around the pool in the summer and skiing at New Hampshire’s Black Mountain in the winter.
Looking ahead, Murray expects no trouble filling up his calendar. “My ultimate goal is to help 365 clients a year — approximately one closed loan per day,” he says. “That means continuing to make each step more efficient and always improving the overall experience for my clients.”
