The MassHousing Building Community Through Arts & Culture program granted $40,000 in funding to The Peabody Companies for the addition of a playground, basketball court and mural at Bedford Towers.

The New Bedford community serves older adults and those with disabilities.

Once completed in September 2027, the playground will feature swings, hopscotch, four-square grids and picnic tables. The basketball court will adjoin a mural from local artist Dave Gaudalupe Jr. that “reflect[s] cultural pride, educational themes and intergenerational community spirit,” according to a press release.

“MassHousing is pleased to partner with the Peabody Companies in its investment in artistic and cultural endeavors at Bedford Towers, which will all add vibrancy, foster a sense of belonging and strengthen that community for its residents,” said MassHousing CEO Chrystal Kornegay.
