Agent Snapshot: Betty J. Levin, Broker Associate, Century 21 Advance, Medford

What was your first job in the realty industry? I worked at Ingram RE in Belmont Center for one year, then moved on to Bremis RE. I lived in Belmont, knew the neighborhood and my neighbors. So it was a natural fit.

Where did you grow up? Newton, Massachusetts was my hometown. I was born and lived there until I moved to Belmont.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to follow my father into the law. Being a lawyer is fascinating to me. Being in real estate is close to the law, since I work with many excellent attorneys. The laws and rules of real estate keep us honest and help us with our clients.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?

1. Go home and watch TV and catch up on the news, world events and current affairs. My favorite relaxer is a Patriots Game.
2. Visit with friends and catch up on gossip

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Barack Obama would be my lunch date. I supported him from the early days of his candidacy and believe him to be a great person.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Dunkin’ Donuts: I know everyone in my neighborhood, all the employees and all the regular clients. They are seven in my neighborhood of Medford.

What do you love most about the industry? Meeting, greeting and helping people. Living THEIR dream!

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I know my marketplace and my inner insight to know people and make them happy and confident about their choice of a home. I listen to and know many people in MANY neighborhoods in my area.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Frustration in not satisfying a buyer – giving it your “ALL” and not being successful. I’m a listing agent.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? The most successful thing is “word of mouth” and meeting new people. Talking to everybody/everywhere and offering to help always. Not just in real estate –always being a genuine and generous person.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? My children and my long, successful career, along with my reputation.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? Manchester by The Sea – The scenery reminded me of my childhood in Rockport by the Sea.

What is your favorite restaurant? Jimmy’s in Arlington. I’ve been going there for 30 years. Consistently great for all occasions.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Boston? The State House in Boston – A beautiful building.

What kind of car do you drive? A Mercedes-Benz – All different models over the past 50 years

Smartphone or paper? Paper

What is your favorite city after Boston?

1. In Massachusetts: Cape Cod
2. Out of Mass: NYC

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Work constantly, give consistent effort and never give up! You’ll succeed!
