Artists can now apply to live in Hawthorne Lofts, a Peabody Properties development designed for creatives. Located in Salem, the 29-unit affordable housing community will offer residents access to 5,000 square feet of creative workspace and artist pods.

Part of the Salem Schools project, Hawthorne Lofts will fill two former historic school buildings in downtown Salem. The location provides proximity to public transit and local attractions like Salem Common and the Salem Witch Museum.

The development’s studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments will feature hardwood floors, in-unit laundry and large windows.

“We are thrilled to open applications for Hawthorne Lofts, a unique affordable housing community designed to house, support and inspire local artists,” Peabody Companies Principal and CEO Melissa Fish-Crane said in a press release. “Our goal is to create a vibrant environment where artists can thrive and contribute to the cultural fabric of Salem.”

Construction completion is expected in late 2025.
