For the second year in a row, Massachusetts has the best school system in America, according to WalletHub’s “2023 States With the Best & Words School Systems” report. 

The quality of a community’s school system is often a top priority for homebuyers, especially for those raising a family or planning to. For many families, public education is the only option, but the quality of public school systems can vary widely from state to state. 

WalletHub compared public school systems in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across 32 key metrics based on quality and safety.

Massachusetts ranked No. 1 with a score of 73.02, coming in tops in both quality and safety. The Bay State also ranked No. 1 for math test scores and reading test scores. It tied for second in ACT test scores with California and Connecticut. Massachusetts also had the fifth-lowest percentage of threatened/injured high school students in the study. 

It’s no surprise the Bay State’s schools ranked so high. Boston was also recently named one of the most educated cities in America in WalletHub’s 2023 Most and Least Educated Cities in America list, ranking seventh among the 150 largest metros across the nation.
