Boston ZIP code 02199 named one of the most expensive in the nation for real estate

Boston ZIP code 02199 is one of the most expensive in the nation for housing, a new report from PropertyShark shows.

From January through October of this year, the Boston ZIP code had a median home sale price of $3.245 million, good for No. 27 in the U.S., the report found. 

Five other Bay State ZIP codes cracked the nation’s top 100. Nantucket’s 02554 ranked No. 46 at $2.538 million; Chilmark 02535 was No. 58 at $2.3 million; Weston 02493 was No. 64 at $2.198 million; Wellesley Hills 02481 was No. 74 at $2.055 million; and 02468 in Waban finished No. 80 at $2.014 million.

The three priciest ZIP codes this year are Atherton, California, 94027, in Silicon Valley, where the median home sold for $7.9 million; Sagaponack, N.Y., 11962, in the Hamptons, with a median home price of $5.75 million; and Ross, California, 94957, in Marin County north of San Francisco, where the median home sold for $5.5 million.

The country’s most famous ZIP code — 90210 in Beverly Hills, California — has a median home price of $5.12 million, good for fifth overall.

Ninety of the nation’s 128 most expensive ZIP codes are in California, and most of those are in the San Francisco Bay Area.
