by Liz Hughes

Massachusetts has been named one of the top 10 safest states in the U.S., according to WalletHub’s 2022’s Safest States in America list.

WalletHub compared all 50 states across five metrics covering key safety indicators, including personal and residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety and emergency preparedness. States were also compared across 53 key safety indicators.

The Bay State ranked No. 6 on the list overall. It also ranked No.1 for road safety, fifth for financial safety, seventh for personal and residential safety, 11th for emergency preparedness and 42nd for workplace safety.

Massachusetts’ No. 1 road safety ranking indicated the state had the fewest fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles of travel, according to the report.

Massachusetts was also found to have the lowest unemployment rate and had the third-highest percentage of adults in the country with rainy-day funds.
