Two Boston-area communities make 100 richest places list

by Brandie Malay Siavelis

Of the top 100 richest places to live in America, two are in Massachusetts, according to a new list compiled by Bloomberg, which analyzed 2016 U.S. Census data.

Wellesley came in at No. 31 on the list, with an average household income of $264,145 — $19,740 (8.1 percent) more than the average household income in 2015, $244,405. Winchester, in Middlesex County, came in at No. 86, with an average household income of $204,878 in 2016 — an increase of $12,539 (6.5 percent) from the 2015 average of $192,339.

While last year’s Bloomberg analysis required a minimum annual income of around $190,000 to live comfortably in the municipalities that made the list, this year’s analysis estimates a required salary of about $200,000.
