Visiting construction sites as a kid made a big impression on Matthew Stevens. “I fell in love with the process of creating spaces and communities,” says Stevens, director of sales and development at Trask Development. He is the second generation of Stevenses to work at Trask, his family’s business that designs, develops, markets and sells single-family homes, condos, town homes and multi-family residential properties. Stevens runs the company with his parents, Rita and Ben, and his sister, Clare. “I am thankful that my team consists of such a fun, creative and talented group of people,” he says.
Stevens leads sales and marketing efforts and plays a role in every other part of the development process, from seeking new projects to entitlements, pre-construction design, interior design and the marketing and sales of the end product. “I get to usher in each new phase of the process,” he says, noting that Trask sells only homes that it develops.
Throughout his career, Stevens has won awards for sales, design and overall performance from the Builders and Remodelers Association. “Part of my edge is a feverish curiosity that has led to an intimate understanding of every step of the development and construction process, and an infatuation with good design,” he shares. “It’s not enough to just know what the consumer wants; you have to know how to execute at every step of the process in order to deliver real tangible value to customers and your business.”
With multiple full-scale kitchens, a number of bathrooms and a selection of thousands of materials for every part of a home, the Trask Design Center simplifies the process of designing each room in a home for clients, guaranteeing they’ll be happy with the final result.
Stevens’ experience growing up in the industry — his first project was laying mulch — has given him an appreciation for the hard work, dedication and talent needed to turn visions into dream homes.
