Boston officially a sports-lover’s dream

by Elizabeth Kanzeg Rowland

Boston is the best sports city of 2025, according to a new study from WalletHub.

The finance company ranked U.S metros based on criteria like team performance, cultural appreciation for sports and ticket prices using data from the U.S Census Bureau and other sources. Boston took the No. 1 spot, propelled to victory by talented teams and a plethora of iconic stadiums and arenas.

In the study, Bostononians showed appreciation for a variety of sports. Bean Town ranked as the best city for hockey, the second-best city for basketball, the fifth-best for baseball and fourth for football. Notably, ticket prices for Boston football games were some of the lowest in the nation.

WalletHub analysts noted that the city’s iconic sports venues like Fenway Park, TD Garden, Gillette Stadium and Harvard Stadium help bolster Boston’s pride in local teams.

“Boston is a dream city for sports fans, with a tradition of championships, historic venues and rabid fans that live and die with their teams,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo told Boston Agent Magazine. “The city dominates across all the major professional sports leagues: the Red Sox in baseball, the Celtics in basketball, the Bruins in hockey and the Patriots in football, giving locals plenty to cheer for year-round. Few places match the energy of Fenway Park on a summer night or the intensity inside TD Garden during the NBA playoffs.”

He continued, “Beyond the pros, Boston’s college sports scene adds even more excitement, with rivalries like Harvard vs. Yale and the Beanpot hockey tournament keeping the spirit alive. With such a deep sports legacy, passionate fans and a track record of success in every major sport that speaks for itself, Boston truly stands as one of the best sports cities in America.”
