Massachusetts is the best state in the US to raise a family

Massachusetts is the best state in the country to raise a family for the third year in a row.

The Bay State is once again the No. 1 state in the country to raise a family, according to WalletHub’s list of “2024’s Best & Worst States to Raise a Family.” Massachusetts also topped the list in both 2023 and 2022. 

WalletHub compared all 50 states across five metrics covering family fun, health and safety, education and childcare, affordability and socioeconomics. States were also compared across 51 key indicators of family-friendliness, from median annual family income to housing affordability to the unemployment rate.

Massachusetts took the top spot with a total score of 66.97, up from 66.14 last year and from 65.21 in 2022. The Bay State also came in tops when it comes to having the lowest unemployment rate in the country and lots of job opportunities. 

Plus, it also took the No. 1 spot in education and child care. 

Additionally, Massachusetts ranked ninth in family fun, fifth for health and safety, and third for affordability. It ranked 21st in the socioeconomics category.

The report also ranked the Bay State third in having the lowest infant mortality rate.
