Blue Hill Avenue project to bring income-restricted housing to Mattapan

by Liz Hughes

A development proposed for Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan will bring a 100% income-restricted development to the area.

The Boston Planning & Development Agency approved the project at 1471 Blue Hill Ave,. which will convert a vacant lot into a five-story residential building with 41 energy-efficient, all income-restricted housing units. They will include one-, two- and three-bedroom units.

It will also include bicycle parking for residents and visitors and contribute to an onsite bike-share station, as well as an onsite community art and work room.

Nearly 43% of the project will be open space, including a small community garden, a publicly accessible pocket park and nine new street trees along Blue Hill Avenue.

Once complete, the project will also include ground floor space for community use.
