For the second year in a row, Massachusetts has been named the No. 1 state in the country to raise a family, according to WalletHub’s list of “2023’s Best & Worst States to Raise a Family.”

WalletHub compared all 50 states across five metrics covering family fun, health and safety, education and childcare, affordability and socioeconomics. States were also compared across 51 key indicators of family-friendliness from median annual family income to housing affordability to the unemployment rate.

The Bay State took the top spot with a total score of 66.14 (up from 65.21 last year). It ranked ninth in family fun, fifth for health and safety, second in education and childcare and second for affordability. It ranked 22nd in the socioeconomics category.

The report also ranked Massachusetts 47th in childcare costs. The Bay State also ranked third in having the lowest infant-mortality rate.
