Boston ranks among best cities in the world

by Emily Mack

Boston came in at No. 36 in this year’s 2023 World’s Best Cities Report, a comprehensive annual study by Resonance Consultancy.

Looking beyond tourist appeal, this ranking takes many factors into account. Among them: infrastructure, nature, the arts, entertainment, culture, diversity and business prosperity. And Boston fared well.

Unsurprisingly, Boston is home to one of the most educated workforces on the planet thanks to its various colleges. Boston is No. 1 in the report’s subcategory for universities. And in turn, those institutions bring a steady flow of talent into the city. Boston ranks No. 8 in the global GDP per capita subcategory and No. 14 when it comes to overall prosperity.

“Boston’s reopening is well underway,” Martha Sheridan, president and CEO of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, said in the report. “Hotel development is robust, new openings and 5-star renovations are a sure sign that recovery is unfolding as we would hope.”

According to the rest of the report, the best 10 cities in the world include:
1. London, England
2. Paris, France
3. New York City, USA
4. Tokyo, Japan
5. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
6. Barcelona, Spain
7. Rome, Italy
8. Madrid, Spain
9. Singapore, Republic of Singapore
10. Amsterdam, Netherlands
