South Boston redevelopment could bring 93 units to the area

by Liz Hughes

Developers have filed a letter of intent to bring more than 90 residential units to a former seafood processing plant in South Boston.

The developer, 270 West Second Street LLC, is looking to redevelop the former North Coast Seafood industrial site at 270 West Second St. in South Boston. The project will include a 96,000 square-foot residential development  with one 93-unit building and garaged parking.

The project will also include new and expanded sidewalk connections, improved pedestrian and vehicle access, as well as overall site upgrades.

Under the proposal, submitted to the Boston Planning & Development Agency on June 29, the current billboard at the site will be removed, along with the removal of a curb cut along West Second Street to add upgrades for pedestrian connectivity.

To ensure the scale of the project’s design will fit with the existing neighborhood, there will be lower building heights along West Second Street and limited vehicle access from First Street, according to the letter.

Due to its size, the project is subject to the BDPA’s large-project review requirements.
