Boston has the second hottest housing market in the country

by Emily Johnson, Taylor Johnson Public Rrelations

Boston’s start to the home-selling season has been a strong one, as the city has been named the second hottest housing market in the country in May.

That’s according to Realtor.com, which used a city’s median days on market and the number of views homes get on its website to determine a market’s “hottness.” Boston has the second hottest market behind Midland, a small town in Western Texas, based on Realtor.com’s rankings. (Meaning that Boston is the hottest major market in the country.)

In Boston, homes sold after being on the market for 27.5 days, which is half the nationwide median and is 17 percent faster than Boston’s median days-on-the-market last year, according to Realtor.com.

Coming in as the 13th hottest housing market in the country is Worcester. The suburb’s median days on market is 34 days, which means home are selling 24 percent faster than last year and 21 days faster than the U.S. average, according to Realtor.com.

On a smaller scale, two Boston-area ZIP codes are among the hottest housing markets by ZIP code, Realtor.com reports. Melrose’s 02176 ZIP code is the 8th hottest market in the country and Arlington’s 02474 ZIP code is the 14th hottest market in the country in May.
