Every week, we ask a real estate professional for their thoughts on the top trends in real estate.

This week, we talked with Jeannemarie Conley, managing director of Compass.

Boston Agent (BA): What made you decide to switch from a more traditional brokerage to a technology-driven group like Compass? Do you see the future of real estate being mostly online?

Jeannemarie Conley (JC): The technological resources Compass provides its agents allows us to work much faster and more efficiently for our buyers and sellers, therefore providing the best client service possible – and excellent service is the number one criteria in real estate. Real estate will always be service based; however, the tools offered to agents are constantly changing based on the technology world we live in; Compass has mastered an incredible technology platform – trailblazing a new path to success.

BA: How do you plan to widen Compass’ reach in the Boston area and beyond?

JC: Boston has some of the best real estate in the country and likewise matching talent among its agents. Hiring high-quality agents will maximize the Compass presence in Boston and beyond. Since our initial launch in Boston in early October, Compass has already seen significant interest from agents all over the state and the New England area interested in learning more about the Compass offering. The beauty of Boston, in addition to its stunning architecture, is that word travels fast as we are a condensed city. For now, we are going to focus on the growth within our 21,000 sq ft flagship office on Newbury Street in Boston.

BA: What are some unique offerings Compass has for agents that they won’t find elsewhere?

JC: From smarter searches to robust valuation tools, Compass builds tools that make agents more efficient and better advisors to our clients. It was one of the top reasons I decided to join. The fact that Compass employs 30-plus engineers from places like Google, Twitter and Facebook to stay ahead of and apply technology advances is unprecedented. The culture is also extremely unique. In an industry that’s riddled with vicious competition, Compass has built a collaborative culture where agents help one another grow their respective businesses.

The real estate industry will always be based on a people to people business. All the software programs in the world still can’t produce what the Buyer and Seller want and trust, “Tell us what you Know”.

    • Holly Donaldson says:

I agree with Ellen. Residential brokerage is a people business and while advanced technology gives us better tools to work with it’s the relationship and the trust and the personal rapport that my clients remember long after a transaction is over.
