Betty White’s Carmel home is for sale — look inside

by Emily Mack

For more than 40 years, Betty White lived overlooking the ocean in a custom beach house in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. The actress, along with her husband Allen Ludden, commissioned the home from architect Richard Hicks in 1978. Sadly, Ludden died before the property was completed three years later. White, though, would maintain the property for the rest of her life.

And with her passing, the estate has hit the market — with a price tag of $7,950,000. It’s listed by Truszkowski Freedman & Associates of Sotheby’s International Realty — Carmel Brokerage.

“Spending time in Carmel was one of Betty’s favorite things to do,” Realtor Nicole Truszkowski said in a statement provided to TODAY. “The home embodies the spirit of Betty and Allen. It was eloquently understated with the focus on nature and the natural beauty surrounding the home.” As Truszkowski describes it, the space served as a sort of oceanfront sanctuary for White, who travelled and worked in Hollywood throughout her decades of ownership.

The three-story, 3,621-square-foot home looks out onto Point Lobos Nature Reserve, Ribera Beach and Monastery Beach with walls of glass further enhancing those ocean views. It also includes four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a versatile dining room, wood paneling, wall-to-wall carpeting, skylights and a stone fireplace.
