Boston takes the trophy for the top city where hockey fans can thrive, according to a new report from WalletHub.
Considering criteria like team performance levels, average ticket prices, fan engagement and more, the finance site ranked over 76 cities and declared Boston the best hockey city in America.
Ticket costs for National Hockey League games fetch high prices in Beantown, a price well worth it to devoted fans. But Boston’s high-performing teams boost the city’s overall score.
The Boston Bruins have taken home the most regular season wins in NHL history. They’ve also won 20 division titles and six Stanley Cups. Additionally, Bruins fans ranked as the third-most engaged NHL fan base nationwide.
Boston’s Division 1 college teams are also winners. The Boston College Eagles and Boston University Terriers have each contributed 5 NCAA titles to the city’s total of 10. That’s more than any other city in the United States.
“Hockey is one of the most underappreciated sports in America, but its popularity is steadily growing, bringing in record-breaking revenue and attendance,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “The best cities for hockey provide good opportunities to watch high-performing NHL teams in person, and sometimes NCAA teams as well. They also have some of the most dedicated fans in the country.”
