by Liz Hughes

Six Massachusetts communities are once again some of America’s most expensive ZIP codes, a new PropertyShark report found.

PropertyShark analyzed residential transactions between Jan. 1 and Oct. 20 to determine the 100 most expensive ZIP codes in the country this year.

Boston’s Back Bay, 02199, fell in this year’s rankings to No. 31 after holding the No. 2 spot in 2021 and ranking 27th last year.

The median sale price of a home in Back Bay was $2.8 million compared to 2021, when it set records at $5.5 million. And it wasn’t the only Bay State area to make the list and have a drop in sale prices.

The median sale price of a home in Chilmark on Martha’s Vineyard fell 15% from last year to $1.95 million, making it No. 87 in the rankings. Last year 02535 held the No. 58 spot with a median home sale price of $2.3 million

Four other Massachusetts towns made the list. Nantucket’s 02554 ranked No. 40 at $2.6 million, up from 46th last year. Weston’s 02493 was No. 70 at $2.1 million, a drop from 2022’s No. 64. Waban’s 02468 rose to No. 71 from No. 80 last year at $2.107 million, and Wellesley Hill’s 02481 fell to No. 84 at $1.99 million. In 2022 it was ranked 74th.

The priciest ZIP code in the U.S. was Atherton (94027) in San Mateo County, California, where the median sale price is $8.3 million, followed by Sagaponack (11962) in the Hamptons on New York’s Long Island, where the median sale price stands at $8,075,000.
