by Liz Hughes

Boston has been named one of the best state capitals in the country in Wallet Hub’s 2023’s Best State Capitals for Safety & More report.

WalletHub found that while state capitals across the nation can be great places to live based on their economic and cultural value, they may not offer the best quality of life.

To identify the best state capitals to live in, WalletHub compared all 50 across four metrics including affordability, economic well-being, quality of education and health, and quality of life.

Boston ranked No. 21 on the list overall. It also ranked No. 1 for quality of life, seventh for quality of education and health, 11th for economic well-being and 49th for affordability,

Beantown was also found to have the lowest debt as a percentage of median income ranking among the 50 state capitals. It also has one of the lowest premature death rates in the nation.

Beantown ranked fifth for most restaurants per capita and tied for first place with Honolulu, Hawaii and Austin, Texas for having the most attractions. It also ranked No. 3 on the list of capitals with the highest percentage of millennial newcomers.
