Multi-family housing proposed for Roslindale’s Arboretum Road

by Liz Hughes

A developer is proposing to build a six-story, multi-family housing project at 18-22 Arboretum Road in Roslindale. A letter of intent was filed with the Boston, Planning & Development Agency on Oct. 21.

If approved, the Boylston Properties and Velney Development proposed project would replace the industrial building located on the lot with a new 298,991-square-foot residential building with 230 apartments and 124 parking spaces. It would be adjacent to a vacant lot at 43 Lochdale Road.

The six-story building would be a mix of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, and proponents say they will also include affordable units in accordance with Boston’s Inclusionary Development requirements.

The project would also involve area improvements, including the replacement of the site’s current hardscape with 38,000 square feet of new open space, which the developer says will feature more than 100 new native trees, rain gardens and pollinator corridors.
