Boston has the nation’s second-highest average monthly rent at more than $4,800

Boston has the second-highest average rent in the country, according to a recent analysis by Rent.com.

Boston’s average monthly rent is $4,878, a 17.4% increase from the previous year. Cambridge was No. 11 on the list, with an average rent of $4,168. Quincy made the list at No. 36.

The report noted most of the highest rent cities are on the West Coast or in the South. Forty-one of the top 100 communities for rent are in California and 15 are in Florida.

The 10 cities with the highest average rents:

  1. Jersey City, N.J. — $5,500 per month
  2. Boston — $4,878
  3. Palo Alto, California — $4,672
  4. Glendale, California — $4,472
  5. Santa Monica, California — $4,357
  6. Coral Gables, Florida — $4,310
  7. Hoboken, N.J. — $4,264
  8. Redmond, Washington — $4,222
  9. San Diego — $4,202
  10. Newport Beach, California — $4,178
