Greater Boston Real Estate Board Foundation to award $600,000 in scholarships

by Liz Hughes

The Greater Boston Real Estate Board Foundation’s annual scholarship event Tuesday night will award more than 70 Boston-area students “last dollar” college scholarships. Thousands of dollars will be bestowed to ensure these students can attend and stay in college.

The annual event takes place Tuesday, June 7 at.

New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty and former offensive lineman Matt Light will be honored for their work on behalf of young scholars at the event, which will be held at the Westin Copley Hotel.

Greg Vasil, GBREB president and CEO, said the scholarships are often critical in “determining whether or not a low-income student will arrive on campus to attend college.”

“We and our colleagues are honored to celebrate these young scholars and the more than $2 million in ‘last dollar’ scholarships that have filled critical gaps in financial aid, room, board, computers and books the last 10 years,” he said.

This year, the fund will grant more than $600,000 in scholarships of between $1,000 and $5,000 each.

The foundation is a charitable tax exempt 501 (c)(3) organization that raises funds through the philanthropic giving of its five member organizations: The Building Owners and Managers Association of Boston, Commercial Brokers Association, Greater Boston Association of REALTORS®, Real Estate Finance Association and the Massachusetts Apartment Association.
