by Stephanie Sims and Natalie Terchek

Like 237 other cities around the continent, Boston officially threw its hat into the ring this week to woo Amazon for the company’s second headquarters. A real estate expert recently told Bloomberg that the city’s chances are “pretty good” because it’s on an opposite coast of the Seattle headquarters, it has renowned academic institutions and its infrastructure and technology community are formidable.

Elsewhere in Boston real estate news:

  • Ground was broken at 480 Rutherford Avenue in Charleston on a 1.1 million-square-foot residential building. The 177-unit building will include 23 affordable units in accordance with a recent initiative from Mayor Martin J. Walsh, according to Boston Real Estate Times.
  • The area’s biggest sale this week was a $7.4 million colonial revival estate in Cambridge. The Joseph Thorp House most recently was home to the former U.S. ambassador to Australia, according to BRET.
  • Curbed spotlighted the city’s most historic cemeteries for anyone looking for a fright — or anyone who just wants to learn a thing or two — over Halloween weekend.
