Here’s how much Boston homeowners pay in property taxes

Boston area homeowners pay a modest amount in property taxes, at least compared to other big cities with expensive housing markets.

Local taxing bodies gathered $5.7 billion in property taxes in 2016, according to property tax data released Thursday by ATTOM Data. With an effective tax rate of 1.26, Boston ranks 79th out of 217 in tax rate.
