Joseph Smith, branch manager of Guaranteed Rate in Boston, takes a consultative approach, building relationships with his clients in order to serve their current and future needs. Offering a variety of solutions from over three dozen investors to ensure maximum financing at the best rate possible, Smith serves a wide range of clients, including millennials, immigrants, empty nesters relocating to the city and developers working on new construction condominiums.

“I’m a generalist,” he explains, adding that over the course of his 25 years in the business, he’s become well versed in investor-specific underwriting guidelines and can match his clients with the right lender considering of their credit score and financial situation.

For four years in a row, Smith has received the Guaranteed Rate Chairman’s Circle award for coordinating more than $100 million in home loans. “I aim to work smarter and harder than anyone else and bring honesty, integrity and professionalism to the lending profession,” he says. Thanks to his diligence, clear communication and years of experience, Smith has lent over $3.5 billion and has no intention of slowing down.

“Helping people achieve the dream of homeownership inspires me,” he says. “Few people have the opportunity to make such a great impact on someone’s life. That keeps me going every day.”

Outside work, Smith volunteers with the Victory Program, helping the Boston-based nonprofit run events to raise money and awareness to fight homelessness and serve individuals and families who struggle with chronic health problems and addiction.

As a proud and devoted family man, Smith derives motivation from his loved ones. “I want my kids to have a good life and a great education, and I work hard every day trying to be the best father and partner I can be,” he says.
