The nonprofit Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. wrapped up construction on Columbia-Uphams, which will offer over 90 units of affordable family housing on Columbia Avenue in Dorchester.
The project rehabbed two residential properties, Columbia West Apartments and Uphams Corner Apartments, connecting them into a single complex featuring studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
AHSC bought the buildings in 2018 and 2020 and partnered with Peabody Properties to design the combined development before seeking approval from MassHousing, the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities and the City of Boston. Financing was provided through state and federal tax credits and historic tax credit equity.
“The completion of Columbia-Uphams represents another step forward in our mission to preserve and expand affordable housing,” said Michael Mattos, president and executive director of AHSC. “By unifying two long-standing residential communities into one revitalized development, we’re not only enhancing the quality of life for current and future residents, we’re reinforcing our commitment to inclusive, sustainable neighborhoods. We’re grateful for the collaboration with Peabody Properties and our funding partners who helped make this project possible.”
