Massachusetts population surges, partly due to international migration

by Elizabeth Kanzeg

Massachusetts has one of the fastest-growing populations in the nation, according to a new report from the National Association of REALTORS®.

Sourcing data from the recently released 2024 United States Census Bureau population estimates, NAR found that Massachusetts ranked among the top 15 states with the fastest growth in population.

Including natural change (births minus deaths), domestic migration and international migration, the population of Massachusetts grew by over 69,000 people in 2024, a 1% increase from 2023.

Over 15,600 international migrants moved to the Bay State in 2024, meaning Massachusetts welcomed the seventh-largest number of international migrants in the nation.
