Boston ranked one of the best cities for working parents

by Liz Hughes

Boston has been named one of the best cities for working parents in America, according to a new report from CoworkingCafe.

Twenty communities across the country made CoworkingCafe’s Best U.S. Cities for Working Parents list. Cities were selected using 10 weighted metrics grouped into three categories that best represent the most heavily influenced aspects of family life: education (40%), work (40%), and health and environment (20%).

Boston ranked No. 5 on the list with an overall score of 54.2, leading the list of cities in the health and environment category by a large margin. It has the highest number of pediatricians per capita in the nation, “with 386 pediatricians for every 100,000 children,” the report found.

Beantown also ranked high when it comes to education, boasting approximately three schools per square mile.

And when it comes to work, Boston has 1.1 co-working spaces per square mile, which when you add it all together gives Boston parents “all of the right conditions to spend the least amount of time possible on the road,” the report said.

Washington, D.C., topped the list, followed by Arlington, Virginia, at No. 2, followed by Seattle and San Francisco.
