Proposed South Boston development to bring 75 units to the area

by Liz Hughes

A developer has filed a letter of intent to redevelop a South Boston site to bring a multi-family mixed-use building to the neighborhood.

The 14,541-square-foot property at 49-51 D St., is home to a two-story brick industrial building with surface parking. Once complete, the new building will be a nine-story, mixed-use building with 75 multi-family residential units. It will also include 1,200 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.

Additionally, the new building will include 18 residential parking spots and two commercial spaces, as well as spots for 75 bicycles for residents and 15 for visitors. It’s located within walking distance to the MBTA’s Andrew Square Red Line and several MBTA bus routes.

The proposed project is subject to the Boston Planning & Development Agency’s large project review process due to its size. The project itself exceeds 50,000 square feet of gross floor area.
