BRA Approves 8 Developments for 703 New Residential Units

During its February board meeting, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) approved eight projects, resulting to $586.1 million in development costs and 1.1 million square feet of construction.

The eight approved projects will include 703 residential units, 730 student beds, and 52,000 square feet of office space. Here is an overview of each project:

  • Equity Residential’s $350 million, 470-unit Garden Garage project was finally approved – for the past six years, the residential tower has been working its way to gain public approval.
  • Eden Properties’s $47 million, 130-unit residential project will include a 7,5000-square-foot retail space and an on-site bicycle repair station.
  • Velkor Realty Trust’s $9 million, 44-unit housing development at 1181 Bennington St. in East Boston is near the Suffolk Downs and the MBTA’s Orient Heights Blue Line Station.
  • Legend Development Group’s $7 million, 32-unit condominium building will also include 5,100 sure feet of street-level retail space, and a 17-space surface parking lot.
  • Boston University’s $140 million renovation of Myles Standish Hall consists of 730 student beds and a 5,500-square-foot pedestrian plaza.
  • Connelly Construction’s $3.5 million, 18-unit residential project will feature 21,960 square feet of space.
  • Westbrook Partners’ $25 million renovation of a former factory into a 52,000-square-foot commercial office space will include a 12,000 square feet of ground-floor space for retail tenants and a fitness club.
  • Oranmore Enterprises LLC’s $4.6 million development of a nine-unit condominium complex is currently home to Williams Tavern and My Diner. The condos will most likely be priced at more than $1 million each.
