After spending over 10 years in finance as a stockbroker and another 10 years as an attorney handling the appeal of criminal cases, Bonny Gilbert entered the mortgage industry. She was immediately drawn to reverse mortgages, which drew on her strengths, as well as her passion for helping people solve problems. “It’s also about teaching financial advisors, Realtors and attorneys about a solution that they knew very little about and had not previously considered for their clients,” she says.

In the industry for 15 years, Gilbert is a senior reverse mortgage advisor with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation representing clients throughout New England, as well as in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida. Originally from New York, she’s lived in Brookline for almost 40 years. “I have a deep understanding of Brookline and all of Massachusetts,” she says. “I’ve also spent a great amount of time getting to know New England.”

With very few loan officers who truly understand reverse mortgages, Gilbert is considered an expert in the field. “My experience in both finance and law gives me a unique edge to truly understand my clients’ and referral partners’ needs and circumstances,” she insists.

Gilbert is also involved with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization in leading a statewide effort to reduce medical costs for Massachusetts residents. Taking time this past year to accomplish a personal goal of learning how to swim, Gilbert says she tries not to take herself too seriously because she takes her work very seriously. “The most important thing that I can do is to help each of my clients solve a problem,” she shares. “But adding humor and warmth will not prevent work from getting done.”
